Hello everybody. My name is Dan Gray and I’m a veterinarian with Gentle Vet Animal Hospital in Green Bay, WI. I also have the pleasure of working with the zoo among many other duties with various other organizations. Right now I am sitting in New Orleans, LA on a hot muggy night. I’m here to help the Audubon Instituted take care of their incredible number of Sea Turtles that have been affected by the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill. Currently I have been told that there are 150 hospitalized turtles that I’ll begin work on on 8/16/10. This should be an exciting opportunity and I want to thank Dr. Gilbert of Gentle Vet Animal hospital, the Audubon institute, and the NEW Zoo for making this possible for me.
So far the trip has been a rocky one. I was supposed to leave Green Bay on 8/14 but due to a malfunction of the airplane (before we boarded thankfully) the flight was cancelled. Because of the PGA tour and Packers game the next flight was the next day! Fortunately that set of flights went without problems. So I’m here in the hotel room having missed my first shift but we’ll get a chance to see the turtles and start work on 8/16 at 8a.m. , that is if the remnants of tropical depression #5 that is coming ashore don’t flood us out! Currently I don’t know what is in store for me but I’ll be sure to fill you in as the days events unfold. I’ll be here for two weeks and will post about everyday. Since all media needs to be “approved” there may be some delays with the dates of each post but I will keep you informed as to what is going on each day!
